the pictures are great. I would love to visit libya again and i am sure there is so much development. I wonder if the apartments are still there... I think most of the diplomats used to live there in the early to mid 80's. every evening I would watch ships & ferries sail in & out of the harbour. then we moved to a villa somewhere in andalus near the friendship village.

i don't remember the name. but what i remember was it was situated in the middle of the town. and the lifts @ elevators were usually out of order that's why we moved to hai andalus which is closer to the embassy

Hi there again. I 'm from Malaysia. Lived in Libya for 3 1/2 years. I attended OCS (Oil Companies School) aka ISM (International School of the Martyrs). Was in Libya from 85/86 - June @ July of 88. I was there when the Americans bomb the city. thank god we have moved to our new house a few months earlier. the whole area was nearly destroyed. a girl from my school lost her sister tgat day. it was a very sad event. i'll try to ask my dad if he remembers the name of the area. please link my site. i'm going to link yours too. yes friendship village does exist yes and it is nicer now, the beach hotel ( you mean hotel alshatt? ) is yes then the building has become a business complex and restaurant

There used to be an arab restaurant in Tripoli, near the Green Sq by the name of Scheharazade. I wonder if it is still open. There used to be a hotel named Beach Hotel, a few kilometres outside of the city. We used to live there as it was close to the embassy which is located at Hai Andalus. Someone told me it has been turned into a shopping mall. My dad & I used to go fishing near the hotel. Just wondering.

Yes the hotel is a shopping mall , office complex now . very busy place. I'm not sure at th Scheharazade restaurant thought, as I don't walk much in city centre I'll have to check when I do paark and walk there ...now it's tooo hot

Hi, i lived in tripoli from '94-2000, lived in NOC camp and went to the British School and then to ISM. red_enclave, what was ISM like then? when i went it was really run down, and the teachers were terrible (my english teacher couldn't speak english!), but i loved it! i live in london now, but really miss libya, especially having the beach right around the corner from my house!

Hi Lena, loved OCS, back then it was called OCS not ISM. changed the name a number of time. i lost track. During my time there, we had a lot of Canadian teachers. They were great. Had a small community of American teacher, married to the local but after the bombings some of them left! Where did you live in Libya? I lived somewhere close to the Friendship village

I live in Libya from 1984 to 1992. I lived in the Friendship Village and attended the British School. I am trying to locate both of these places on a satellite picture but am having a bit of trouble cos I was very young at the time so i'm not really sure where to look. Could anyone give me any hints as to the areas I should look in or anything significant they would be near? I'd really appreciate the help!

I lived in Ras Lanuf from 1982 to 1986. My father worked for Stone and Webster. I would like to make contact with anyone that went to Ex Pat School. The teacher at the time was Tom Robb. Names I remember are Doruk Erkan (Turkey), Lawrence and Anthony Dale (England), Anthony and Helen Scott (Wales), I would also like to see recent photo's of Ras Lanuf Old Town, does anyone have some?
I am curious if there are any pictures of the OCS (Oil Companies School) available. I attended school there from 1972 through 1975. Does the teen center still exist? Gosh I really miss that place. I wish my kids had a place to go like the teen club. Now all kids want to do is sit in front of a computer or video game. So many memories that a history book could never tech us! Great pictures

Hi, I have been searching for information about OCS. I attended there 1981-1982. I was there when the Amercians left and the Canadians came to replace all the teachers. I remember teachers such as Mr Knight (history) - he almost failed me! My wonderful friends Lena and Marja from Finland, Liliana from Venezuela, Senouci from Libya and Dag from Seden. And many more, I still have my yearbook! I was living in Suani with the Australian farming contingent - I loved Libya, and my time at OCS. And like many comments posted here, my experience there has been very influential on what I have done the 25 years since. I too became a teacher, and have since moved into peace-making. The Libyan people, their generosity and resilience steered me to my chosen career. Thankyou for this little trip down memory lane. I look forward to visiting this fine country again one day. Hello! I was just reading some of the comments made and I too attended the OCS school. I was also there when someone's sister passed away from the bombings. We were there from Fall 1982 to Spring 1986. We returned to the States in the spring.

Hi, I am happy that I found this site. I lived in Lybia in 1988 - 1989 as a child 10 years old. We lived with my parents and sister in Camp Regata on the coast.
